Hi all,
Looking for a bit of wisdom, not about my Landies this time but about my company car. I have a vauxhall insignia and it wasn't quite due for its service but the front brakes started rumbling with that distinctive metal on metal sound so I booked it in early and told them about the brakes. Came back from the service being told the brakes were fine. I took it easy for the next few weeks and put it in for its mot at a different garage. It failed on the front brakes which were as I already new down to the metal. I complained to the dealership who said at the service the pads were 60% worn and if they had been down to the metal, by the time of the mot a few weeks and 2000 mile later, then the steel backplates of the pads would have worn through. I think this is total bull but would appreciate peoples thoughts on whether this would happen.
Cheers
Steve

Sounds like bull and like they wanted to avoid the cost of new brake parts and as it is a company car hoping that the driver/owner would not bother to check as it was not his own private car. The problem is that unless you have photgraphic or other evidence of the wear then you are probably up the creek and all you can do is ditch that garage and pass on your experience of it to others.

My experiences with dealers are they are a complete waste of time. They have zero competency. I would just forget about them and not go back.

ii NEVER normally let a main stealer go near any car of mine but this year my mazda rx8 needed a recall doing on the fuel system...so i reluctantly took it to coventry mazda. it took 3 visits, one on the back of a recovery truck to get it fixed...i would not let a dealer blow the tyres up let alone anything else!!!

I let a dealer put 2 tyres on for an mot. Had to take it back 3 times as they were that far out of balance I couldn't stand the vibration through the wheel at anything over 45mph. 45 minute trip each way plus 2.5 hours sat waiting for a balance each time.

Ended up getting it done at my local tyre place. Got them to balance them without taking the weights off, they were 110g out, the weights were on completely the wrong side. When I complained to the dealer all I got was confusion. The staff couldn't understand what my problem was. All they would offer was to bring it back... again. Rolling Eyes
