Help!

H reg surf won't start. He's a recent purchase (this week!) so far has run fine, started etc but today he wouldn't start. I came back 45 mins later to try again and he started first time. Then later this afternoon wouldn't start again!! Lights on dash and media unit come on, then there's a constant beep sound like when you leave the lights on. If you then turn the key absolutely nothing happens. The chap I bought it from told me to wiggle the red and green wires attached to the battery terminal as it's done this once before. I've wiggled, removed put back on, tightened and generally faffed with to no avail! Before the faffing the battery dial was between 0 and the battery unit symbol (make sense?) after a little faffing it moved between the battery symbol and 18. Any ideas? Thanks in advance 😊[/img]

Check the starter cables for tightness and breakages, also any earthing points you can find.

Check both battery terminals are tight and clean for a start, then i would start looking at the alternator/starter motor wiring terminals, make sure there's an Earth Strap on the engine to body and to battery and that those connections are clean, sometimes braided engine to body strap types fray away with excess movement, and after they break you sometimes will get the dash electrics coming on ok as it can earth through things like the accelerator cable, but the starter pulls way too much current and wont be able to earth through that, after that i'd be looking at the ignition switch, pop the cowling off, turn on ignition then bridge the starter connections with wire to see if the switch is at fault.

if it does it again then take a jump start lead and clamp it from the battery negative to the engine then try starting it, if it starts then its probably the earths, if it doesn't then its something else and you ca nrule that out.
