I need help. Dad has had it put into his head by one of his idiot mates that he has to have agricultural equipment traction tyres on his Jimny because it is used on the farm and tractor tyres are the best way to make progress without any loss of traction therefore doing the least damage to the land, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.
Horse apples.
But he is now insistent and has even priced up some 6.5/80 15s as a replacement for the 205s. No amount of pointing him at simex copies or any other more suitable mud tyres is being accepted. He wants the dumpers and that's an end to it.
Here's the problem. The car will have to do some road miles, is not agriculture registered and is not speed limited.
Am I right in thinking that if the police see you on the road with tractor tyres on a car then you can expect serious complications in your immediate future? Like being arrested and having the car impounded complications?
Or is it actually ok so long as you are insured and keep your speed fairly sedate. Given that most trailed equipment now goes on the back of 70 and 80kph tractors quite reasonably without the tyres exploding one assumes that speed ratings on the smaller agri tyres would be up the same level?
I appreciate that I am not my father's keeper and it is up to him if he wants to pursue this but I also could do to prevent my own life becoming complicated too.
Cheers in advance.

Two problems spring to mind. Lots but not all tractor type tyres are stamped NHS (Not for Highway Service) the other being lots are stamped with the load rating A8 which is 40km/h which equates to 25mph.Driving at 25mph off road will be fine if a little fast maybe, driving at 25 mph on the road could end up having to pull over for vehicles. Police MAY well cast a blind eye to it if it being driven reasonably ,DVSA probably not as they are liable to want to throw various C&U (Construction and Use) regs at you concerning the tyres usage on the road.
Another couple of thoughts you will find quite a few are likely to be TT stamped as in TubeType so will need a tube, the other thought is the higher the ply rating the lower the speed rating, A6 is 30km/h (19mph).
