Hi All
Used to frequent this forum a fair few years ago and found it to be a font of info. Glad to see its still going strong. Dancing

Right anyway - New project, I've just acquired a 1.9TD Commercial Vit, haven't seen it yet but its being dropped off tomorrow with any luck.

Now I realise this 'project' really isn't going to be to everyones liking, but folks will pitch in answers if they want to.
I've always wanted a tube frame side by side buggy - however they are pricey, fairly useless in our rain soaked country and not something you can leave outside the shops without wondering if someones going to steal your eric clapton CD. So.. the Vit will be a stand in. I want speed (or noise) and fun handling. And mainly something I can fix just by swearing at it.

The Vit's not going to do any serious off roading, so much so my plan is to drop the front diff and shafts out, lower (yes LOWER shock horror what a **** etc.) the whole thing a tad and set it up on some suitable coilovers.
Rear end will also be lower to stop the whole thing handling like a SPAM bird after 2 bottles of champagne.

I have a couple of LDV pilot boxes and bellhousings to hand and Im planning to drop the vit gbox and tbox out and replace with a 2wd straight through ldv box. Make a rear prop, jobs a good'un.
Later on its likely most of the front will be coming off for a tube frame front end but only after its running gear is about right.
Likely will be a larger turbo/ pump mods and FMIC as well, not necessarily in that order.

Its not going to be scraping on the ground with 20" spinners, just a bit more road, sandy gravel track orientated.

Can anyone confirm Vitara commercial have a 4.5 Ratio diff - not 5.13? I can check when it turns up but I'm impatient.
And whether fitting the LDV R380 box is going to leave me with too high gearing? It would appear that final drive on a R380 is 0.77:1..
I'll hopefully be running on 235/60 (65?) /15 on modulars. Big high sidewalls aren't going to help to reduce roll.

Seems lots of SJ folks aren't happy with the road speed after doing a ldv box swap, I'm assuming this is due to higher diff ratios, tbox gearing?

Anyway - bit of an essay!

Any comments welcome.. I think Wink

Having had it arrive on Thursday - Its now on ebay:

Its far too good to chop up and just make RWD. I though it would be a complete wreck as I bought without seeing it but its actually very nice!
SO if anyone wants a factory diesel..
