Morning
I’m thinking about upgrading my challenge trucks steering to full hydro (8” double ended ram), has anyone had much experience with this on a landrover axle? Do the swivel housings manage ok? I did consider hydro assist however the advantages of going full hydro not just for the steering would be substantial so its looking like a good idea I just want to make sure its set up correctly and not going to mean I need to be replacing major axle components each event.
Thanks in advanced.

No reason why the axle components should suffer as long as you match the ram travel with the standard steering stops...
How are you going to attach to swivels? I have been thinking this one over and figured i would have to find a LHD swivel so that you end up with a steering arm pointed forward both sides (no room to fit ram behind axle)?
Or maybe fit a double acting single end ram fitted in front pushing on standard steering arm / behind axle and pushing on the tie rod?

That was my thought, as long as I set it up correctly it should be ok. Just wanted to see if anyone else has had any issues with fitting and using the system.
I was thinking of modifying the tips of the swivel so I could maybe bolt on a steering arm. But we will see closer to the time. I like the idea of a single ram that drives from behind. I want to make sure I get it right as it’s a lot of money to throw away if I get it wrong.

I like the single ended located behind axle as well. I was thinking that with a nice skid plate under it that is probably the safest place for it to be..
To be honest though the fabrication / ram mounting / mechanical should the least of my worries. The more i have read up the more i feel i would be out of my depth figuring out how to match pump / pressure / orbital / ram size & diameter etc....
Makes one of the off the shelf kits available in the States look like a good investment even if they wont match a Landy axle straight out of the box...
