|
|
|
Had a moment of excitement when I needed to stop quickly to miss a sheep. My foot went to the floor with the brake pedal and nowt happened. These brake have always been fine and only a few minutes before I was braking perfectly and hard down hill.
I cannot see any leaks from any of the pipework or brakes. Is it likely hat the master cylinder has failed?

Did the brake pedal firm up when pumped a few times?

Big SPAM nothing there. Can push the pedal down with a finger. and it doesn't pump up. When it happened the reservoir didn't lose any fluid but 48 hours later the level has dropped.

Hmmm - if no obvious leak then I think that points to the master cylinder...
...mind you I had a similar failure a few years back and it was traced to a teeny weeny hole in a brake line which had let air into the system. Bleeding the brakes might sort out if there is air in the pipework which might rule that out if the problem continues.

Thanks. As far as I can tell the system is bone dry and I would expect a tiny hole to show at least a spec of moisture.
All I have to do know is work out which cylinder is needed. Every source tells me I have to chose from 2. Oh well.

Sounds about right until someone comes along and corrects me
Best of luck.

I take it is some kind of Land Rover, any chance of saying what vehicle it is that is being discussed?

Hi,
if you have a garage, cover the floor with newspaper, park on top of it, let your truck drip overnight.
