Hey guys

New to the forum, and to off-roading.

I am looking for recommendations for a SWB 4x4 for under £2500ish, really looking for something thats cheap(relatively, I know its no hatchback) to run, easy to modify for pay & plays with good parts availability. I have been looking at Suzuki Jimny's but if I am honest I would much prefer something that would be able to tow around a boat and some bikes (so about ~2ton max) and the Jimny just isn't enough for that.

So yeah, I know everyone will have their favourites, but I am just looking for some recommendations about what is out there and its pros/cons if possible, it will be my daily driver but I am a glutton for punishment so Defender levels of comfort wouldn't bother me but economy and cheap parts do.

Look forward to reading your responses

SWB shogun / pajero..

We've had a couple LWB ones over the years and they're great. If economy matters steer away from the petrol auto ones...

Jeep Xj Cherokee Go for the 4.0L better than the 2.5l diesel loads out there.
Easy to mod and good towing capacity.

This. They're a great vehicle, very capable both on and off road and you can pick something to suit your budget. Watch for fuel injection issues on the GDI petrol ones, oil leaks on the diesel ones and make sure you check the 4WD system out extensively before purchasing.

If you want something light the SJ/Jimny or Vitara/Grand Vitara are great vehicles too. The GV is a little rarer in SWB.

All the above except the SJ are available in manual or automatic to suit your desires.
