Hi all, wondering is there such a thing as a light weight winch capable of pulling your average 4x4?
In my shed have a superwinch husky, and a H14 pto winch, both are 50kg ish and bears to move. I also have a 1.5 ton superwinch but thats too small, and a 40 series PTO winch, but im thinking something lighter that i could lift off and attach to the back or the front might be a good solution.
anyone has any ideas please let me know,
thanks for reading,
regards

2 tonne is not going to be powerful enough to pull your average 4x4 out of a sticky muddy hole, although it will move most 4x4s on a road

i am often baffled why so many people seem to want the biggest winch they can get, is there some sort of winch snobbery going on?
a 13,000 winch on an sj!
it only weights 1 ton.
the bigger the winch the heavier it gets, and of course the winch bumper needed gets heavier and the battery.
my vit has a 6,000 winch and i have 2 snatchblocks, although 1 block will do.
the only down side to a snatch block is you have less rope, but you can add more strops ect.
when considering a winch for my vit i figured that the weight of the winch and then the bumper meant quite a bit of weight overhanging the front of the vehicle, the winch weights 35kg's the bumper about the same, so around 70 kg's sat infront of the car altering the lifted suspension's road manners considerably.
anything more would have been too much, imho!
the winch really is a last resort or for helping others, if you are with other 4x4's then a tow generaly would be better, i think.
also in my experience the time you actualy need it it does not work or the soleniods have failed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was thinking doubled up - I suppose it depends on whether you are bathing your chassis in mud or just your tyres...

The weight of a 13000 pound winch is very little (if any) to a 8000 pound winch, it's the same frame, the same gears, same drum only difference is the motor
10000. 9500 and 9000 pound motors have different gearing but the same frame - the weight would be similar though
Below 8000 pound winches you are looking at ATV winches which do have smaller frames

I have to say that if you have this problem then you are not keeping it maintained
