Looking for some advice as I am seriously confused
Recently done head gasket on my sammy, g16a with SUhiff44 carb
Went back together fine, timing all okay.
My issue is it now wont fire, cranks well, good compression (160-170 psi) I have spark, I have fuel.
Wierd thing is if I remove the inlet manifold, it will try to start with fuel thats left in combustion chamber
Any help is appreciated

So is any air getting in with the inlet manifold on? The logic being; you have spark, you have fuel, you need air as well which you will get with the manifold off but of course no fuel to continue to run. Is there a partial obstruction in the manifold?

No obstructions on inlet manifold, could a badly set carb have anything to do with it as that is my next port of call?

Doesn't the distributor on that engine run in the reverse direction to normal?

I presume it's an 8V so no.
If it's a 16v then it would need to be modded to run an 8v distributor if it's on a carb anyway.
