My insurers are being difficult. The wont cover the rear side facing seats in my 110 CSW. Factory installed seats but no mountings for seat belts. Law requiring seat belts I the back etc came in the year before the 110 was made. As belts were, I believe, never actually approved I am rather confused.
Any advice?

Who is your insurer? May I suggest you contact a insurer or broker that knows what they are talking about regarding rear side facing seats - motor homes also have them...

Sideways facing seats were banned some time ago, I assume yours is older than this to have factory fitted seats and no belts but perhaps the insurance company has got it into their heads that this isn't allowed or maybe they've just had too many claims against them for accidents from this arrangement?

I would make sure the number of seats is correct on the V5 and try a different insurer, there are lots of Land Rover specialists or I've always found NFU to be good, not cheap but they insure things for me that other companies just say no to.

Adrian Flux currently who just don't know what's what. NFU are trying to quote, just waiting on the underwriters as its got a 2.8 Isuzu lump in it.
V5 is just like most V5's. Doesn't give seating .

Erm, mine does - part S.1 in the blue 'Vehicle details' bit...

I would just phone around a few insurance companies, don't use price comparison websites or online forms! Ive had a few cars that were difficult to insure (imports/classics/modified) and just took a bit of effort finding the right company. Once you've found them it will all fall into place! Smile

No seating detail on the 3 current V5's in our family. Quite common apparently.
LR don't help in some ways. My dads 57 plate 90 started life as a hard top. He inherited from a family member and noticed on the V5 that it is a 4 seater. Never had seats fitted, no mounts, no seat belts and it had no windows from new. Hmmm
Looks as if the seat belt law that Flux are quoting doesn't take into account side facing seats as they couldn't have standard belts fitted.
NFU weren't even bothered. "Its a standard LR" where's the problem?"
Not sure though if they will touch a modified though. Waiting.

I checked some more thinking im going mad, and your right. BMW / VW have no detail, and the one for our Volvo is wrong! It only has 4 seats and v5 says it has 5, seems its not only LR that f**ks it up Laughing

Good luck with your insurance Smile

If seem to remember that if they were factory fitted then they are legal.

Mine has number of seats but not CO2 or permissible trailer weights, DSA must just stick in what they're told and not worry about the gaps Very Happy

Thanks for the help. Sorted.
I gently pointed out that they were happy for me to use a modified vehicle, in this respect, but not a standard one and eventually spoke to some one rather higher up the food chain. Sent them some links as well. Cost me 20 quid more but I did double the value at the same time.

Both proved handy
