Copied from 4x4 for wider coverage as i'd hate anyone to get caught out:

Windscreen stickers which show a vehicle’s emissions levels are now a legal requirement in several French cities .
UK drivers heading to the capital are advised that driving without a France 'clean air' sticker (£3.20) makes them liable for an on-the-spot fine of up to £117.
Drivers of non-French-registered vehicles have been offered a degree of leniency and given until March 31 to fully comply with the Crit’Air initiative. An English language section of the government website responsible for stickers will launch on February 1.
The scheme went live in Paris on January 15 (my Euro II LR is now banned from inside the Peripherique for instance at certain times) , while schemes in Lyon and Grenoble have been running since the start of the year.

There is a exemption for (French) classic cars (ie over 30yrs old) but I'm waiting for the info to appear on the English language website to see how that would work for us.

RAC Website:
http://www.rac.co.uk/drive/news/motoring-news/l...in-french-cities/

Other cities are also likely to introduce the system.

What the info doesn't say is if the stickers will only be checked in the cities where the scheme is on operation or whether checks will be made on the open road...but what do you think if you're in a UK registered vehicle Cool

Be aware - get a sticker if you're going to France.

oxford st. london.

Pollution[edit]
In 2014, a report by a King's College, London scientist showed that Oxford Street had the world's highest concentration of nitrogen dioxide pollution, at 135 micrograms per cubic metre of air (μg/m3). However, this figure was an average that included night-time, when traffic was much lower. At peak times during the day, levels up to 463 μg/m3 were recorded – over 11 times the permitted EU maximum of 40 μg/m3.[59][60] Because of the diesel-powered traffic in the street (buses and taxis), annual average NO2 concentrations on Oxford Street are around 180 μg/m3. This is 4.5 times the EU target of 40 μg/m3 (Council Directive 1999/30/EC).[61

ps, cars are banned from oxford st.......

But then people might have to walk! Humans have not evolved to walk......oh, right....they have?

No, lets just make them electric, then the pollution will be at the coal burning power stations out of the city, where the local councils don't care about it.... Confused

Yep, that's what I said here http://forum.difflock.com/viewtopic.php?p=772989#772989

In another anti-car move I read a news article saying that diesel cars are to be charged more for parking in parts of London in an effort to combat pollution. (I will post the link if I can find it). How frikking daft is that? A parked car does not cause any pollution.

A recent study in Cambridge found that buses are the vehicles causing most pollution. Oxford Street in London is one of the most polluted places in Europe - cars and lorries are banned, only buses and taxis are allowed in Oxford Street.

That is the argument for the hybrid bus, it's on electric whilst snarled up in the city then works the engine harder to run the bus and replenish the batteries as it gets away from the city so the pollution is moved to a less concentrated area and sort of spread out a bit.

I thought they were also trialling hydrogen?

What they should do it make an electric train that runs under the city then run wires to a French owned Chinese built nuclear power station. That'd fix all our problems.

I assume the French thing is so that in the future they can restrict certain types of vehicles and there is a badge in the window to make it easy for plod to work out if your in the wrong place?

Update:

3 hours ago I started the process and have just finished.

Don't get me wrong - the website was an absolute doddle to use and the actual registering and paying took about 10 minutes...

....the killer is trying to get your registration documents scanned and down to a size of 200kb (not the 800kb it suggests on the front page) which is tiny and well below the spec of most scanners and cameras. In the end I just copied the second page of the V5 and gave up trying to merge the whole document and just ran it through pixsizer image handling. Oh yes - only .jpeg or .png format accepted not the standard .pdf. Hey ho - be prepared and it'll be smooth as a smooth thing!

Now to wait for the post...or the dreaded email saying I cocked it up Rolling Eyes

1 car down - 2 to go

this is how lithium is produced

it is pumped from underground brine "lakes" using diesel machinery and left to evaporate in these pools.

it is then processed with more diesel powered machinery before being put onto a diesel train and taken to the docks where it is put onto a diesel ship and transported half way round the world.

so tell me again how you are saving the planet.?

Just got back from a long week in France, drove around 1300 miles round trip on their soil, but had no plans to go into the city so didn't worry about it. Got stopped by the Gendarme on the way down with no mention of the sticker at all, just checked all docs/destination etc... So it would seem it really isn't a problem unless your going into Paris...

Thanks for that.

Keep the updates coming once we pass the 1 Mar deadline for foreign vehicles.

Cheers.

Well, after much silence and thinking that is was only 4.80Eu wasted, today I got the receipt from La belle France for my certificate and telling me that my sticker is in the post.

So I can confirm that all you need is the 2nd page of the V5 to prove the vehicle details which makes ordering one for Mrs NB's car easier.

The only thing I couldn't do was use the website to check on progress of application as it didn't like the UK construction of licence plates. But it worked and I have yet another road tax sticker to add to the 90's windscreen (along with Austria, Bulgaria, Slovenia and Slovakia but the Italian motorway toll thingy fell off but you can see where it was).

I went to place in the Midlands in the early 99's with a huge annealing oven outside. The trolleys were moved with something like a leyland hippo. They had filled the screen with stickers so only a slot was left.
It's sad that we didn't have phone cameras in the days before draconian elf and safety. It was like another country back then Smile
