Greetings all,

I've just inherited a nice Terrano ii 2.7TD, and I thought I'd turn it into a basic expedition vehicle. I'm relatively new to the 4WD game, my only achievement being a 20,000km adventure in a Chevvy tracker (suzuki grand vitara) v6 across Canada and US, mostly on roads, but a few hundred km's of gravel/mildly rocky terrain/snow/ice. The terrano will be mostly for UK and northern european expeditions, the sort which are mostly on roads, but a bit of unsealed roads to get to the interesting places.

Please could you, the expert 4wd community, point me in the direction of any threads about basic preparation, or perhaps offer any advice specific to the terrano or otherwise? I realised, at my expense, the bare minimum is a CB radio, extra lights (scary psycho moose), spare battery, plenty of storage space, and some kind of winch etc (I got the tracker stuck down an icy slope a few hundred km's from Thunder Bay, ON surrounded by wolves. It was brilliant!).

I need to fit roof bars, does anyone know if the bars from the 3.0 terrano will fit on this basic 2.7 model? I fancied fitting a big cargo tray to the roof, for all the extra gear I didn't have last time. I'm not averse to a bit of mechanical tinkering etc, but at best my skills are spirited amateur! Also I've found some excellent wheels from the 3.0 on eBay that have winter tyres on them. Does anyone know if the offset is the same between the 3.0 alloy wheels and the steel wheels on the lower spec models? They're both the right size (16 inch), but look a little different in terms of offset.

Thank you all in anticipation for your expertise!

How do you identify Ged, aside from the large brain full of beer and pint glass of knowledge?
