how much money is the government saving by classing family carers as non professional?

maybe they should try it for a few weeks and have to deal with some of the so called professionals.......

Agreed. And when they try it for a few weeks make sure that they are doing it 24/7 as family carers do.

yup.

they remove the "care component" from the persons benefits and pay it direct to the carer

the rules are you must attend for 35 hours per week and for that you get £62:10

and thats taxable...

£1:72 per hour.

if i left her to the mercy of professional carers it would cost over £800 per week, then a nurse would have to come in and administer wharfarin as its a controlled drug, so more money.

Not commenting on your feelings on this matter - 100% support from me

Pedant alert: "Professional" in this context means 'sole form of employment' rather than 'high level of competence'.
Warfarin is Prescription Only Medicine (POM) in the UK.

Frankly, I think the way family carers are treated is despicable but I also have a lot of sympathy for the professionals who are paid crap, driven like slaves and are simply not given the time to spend with these people who desperately need proper care.

I certainly could not do the job, paid or for family and the prime motivator should be high quality of care before cost. Its saving countless amounts by keeping people at home compared with Institutions so we should see some of those savings go on fair pay - 'professional' or not.
