Hi, looking to change the ratios on my gearbox. Too difficult to fit a low range box, so looking to have 1 very low ratio gear fitted. Any suggestions on who can do this? I am in South Yorkshire.
Cheers

no idea who might be able to mod a gear box...but have you thought about swapping diffs instead? are there other ratios available from the factory?

Don't know enough about it to be honest. Don't know what would fit. I know the was answer is buy a proper off roader, but want to keep the terry.

I would ask rock watt he seems to enjoy cutting gearboxes up and isn't far from you. He has a Facebook page rockwatt 4x4 off road modification if your on there.

Or have a look at what diff ratios are available, quick Google showed up a few different ones fitted from factory, but I'm not sure what you have currently so may not work for you..

Thanks for the suggestion, not sure why I didn't think about this! The older model has a different 1st gear ratio 3.77:1 where mine has 4.06:1
Daft question, but is mine already the lower? Thanks.

yep yours is the lower already, so seems a no go there.
Did you look into whether there were different ratio gearboxes available from the factory? I know they did 2 and 4 wheel drive variants. are there petrol/diesel? 4/5 speed? import/export spec? If so one of the options may have the bits you need to create your super low 1st gear.. or may work as whole box?

EDIT - Just read your post properly - You typed 1st gear ratio (as in gear box - like I copied and pasted to below) I was talking about axle differential ratios! as in the crown wheel & pinion ratio...
Stolen from a few sites, seems there are some options...may not fit though, and im not sure what ratio yours is, so you'll need to do some better research than me!!
1.51 4-speed manual
1st 2.73
2nd 1.52
3rd 1.00
4th 0.69
Reverse 2.29
Final drive 4.875 5.125 / 5.571 5.125
1.5l 5-speed manual
1st 3.76
2nd 2.04
3rd 1.37
4th 1.00
5th 0.83
Reverse 4.12
1.3l 5 speed manual
1th 4,06
2th 2,05
3th 1,38
4th 1,00
5th 0,84
Reverse gear ratio:4,13:1
Final drive:5,57:1

I do appreciate the input!
If I change the axle ratios, it will lower every gear. I live in Doncaster, but tend to do greenlaning in the north yorkshire moors so need to get there in less than a week!
