Defender 300 TDI 90 - 1995
I recently did a overhaul of my gearbox (R380). After we put everything back in place, I noticed a leak between the gearbox and transfer case.
On this initial job, we did put a new collar (original Land Rover part number: FTC4021) and oil seal (part number: ICV100000).
Because the source of the leak seemed to be between these two parts, they were replaced yet again by new ones, however after a couple of days the leak is back.
Can anybody give me pointers what can be the cause or what can be done?
Thanking you in advance.

I find a lot of seals, including manufacturers own, nowadays are totally useless unless you apply a silicon sealant as well...

It seems that the leak is between the collar and the seal. The collar is "attached" to the shaft, that means its a moving part.
When you say, apply a silicon sealant, I don't think it is this feasible in this situation, correct?

First off I'm not familiar with how the parts you are describing are assembled...
Is the seal of the type with a spring inside to keep it on the shaft? And does it seal on the shaft and not on the collar?
If this were the case I'd suggest that the seal has worn the shaft which would explain why you can't stop the leak

Ok, I will try to explain.
The collar is fitted on the shaft.
The seal of the type with a spring inside to keep it on the collar.
The collar and the seal that where fitted (twice) were new.
And it seems that the leak is between the seal and the collar.

So what seals the collar to the shaft?

are you sure its the gearbox that's leaking, because I thought mine was because it was red ATF fluid, but turned out to be the power steering that was leaking a bit and blowing back onto the gearbox
