well here it goes i have had this car about 4 months , its spent about 2 months in garage , first i had the car serviced , full service all fiLters , brakes , transmission oil , oil change , that is when the problem started , within 5 mins of me leaving the garage the car started clunking , under load , ( i live on a hill ) took it back to the garge he said it was wrong oil used , it wasnt it was a excuse , then he said was rear prop shaft , ok changed that , noise still there , then it was gearbox mount , ok , still not that , so i got the car recovered by the aa they said was the drive shaft Neutral well thats been changed , confused , ok then had a so called specialist look at it , he said was gearbox ( ok f**k my worst nightmare ) well now i have a gearbox and had it changed , but still the noise is there but worse , now i have spent around £1500 on this car and still the same , im out of ideas , i wasnt convinced it was the gearbox in the first place as the gears worked perfectly fine , im hoping someone can give me some ideas , THE CAR IS A SSANGYONG RODIUS AWD AUTO 2.7 DIESEL , MERCEDES ENGINE AND GEARBOX IF THAT HELPS

Maybe play in a uj or diff back lash? Or has it got auto locking hubs that are playing up. Are all the tyres the correct size and similar amount of tread on same axle? Hmm let us know how you get on.

i will consider horwich , thank you , the post is already on the owner forum , it has been on since it first happened , just needed fresh eyes , they are saying diff broken tooth , teeth , or spigot bearing , just needed to see if 2 or more people can come up with the same answer , because the mechanic im using , is just guessing now ( well thats what i think anyway ) parts changed ,, rear prop shaft , gearbox mounting , rear axle bushes , gearbox , gearbox was flushed as well before the change , he said it was contaminated oil , he changed so it shouldnt be , anyway thank s

transfer case , now i have 2 options , 1 find a replacement , 2 get a specialist to look at it and strip and rebuild , but the amount of money i have left for this is very limited , could it have given any codes off with out it setting off any lights , ie 4wd check , because its a t.o.d system im unsure where to start , it cant have all gone , so its something inside , but what , is there anyway to eliminate parts ie clutch , im at a loss on this , im not bothered about getting my hands dirty under the hood etc , but this is a grey area for me ,

I read a story once of someone having their engine oil changed in quick fit...

they drained the front diff instead of the engine then wondered why the engine took so little oil on the refill...

When looking for unexplained noises after maintenance, look first at the last job to have been done Wink

If the car's been in quick fit you might as well just kiss it goodbye!
Same with a lot of the other chain garages.

My friend took an Alfa 156 into "Mr Clutch" to have (surprise) a clutch change... took them 3 days
