Thanks in advance for any replys.
Occasionally on pulling away in 1st the gear does not engage and a nasty metalic scrapping noise can be heard . If clutch is depressed another attempt will give a normal pull away. never a problem changing higher gears just pulling away from stationary. happens maybe 1 in 40 times. When noise comes the drive does not engage and no forward motion. Clutch working normally in all other ways.

Front bearing shot on the gearbox backgear as a guess - if it is, it's possible to change it without a complete gearbox stripdown but you will need to remove the gearbox and then the bell housing from the gearbox

Also if it is and you keep driving it, you'll wreck the rear backgear bearing, which is a gearbox stripdown[/b]
