Hope someone can help iv posted a couple of issues on the nissan board but there doesn't seem to be many people there

The car 1999 nissan terrano2 2.7td
The problem. Accelerates fine in 1st 2nd but when go into third at 2000-3500rpm it lags like hell.
Seems to be ok in 4th and 55th maybe down a little bit on power but not much.
I'm getting code 21 which reads ..... fuel injector timing solonoid/injector needle lift sensor malfunction....causes

What have I done so far.
I changed maf when I bought it a month ago.
undone banjo bolt on top of pump to look for a micro filter these have but mine doesn't have it.

What iv noticed..... There is a small amount of diesel sat in a puddle around number one injector. I say number one.... I mean the first injector from the left of engine as you look from the front of car. I done these bits 2 weeks ago when the car presented the problem. At the end of the day the car was fine I thought that's weird iv not done anything but now it's the same again. Also I always keep tank over 1/2 full with BP diesel

Thanks I'm going to change fuel filter tomorro and install some clear pipe between filter and pump.
These fo have a special injector number one that is what the fault code is pointing towards but off reading forums it seems that the injector itself is very rarely the actual cause of the issue. Il look at replacing injector when iv exhausted all avenues
Today I changed the diesel leak off pipes one was weeping diesel and even one snapped when removed them they were very brittle.

One thing iv found on the net is a gear position switch. The symptoms sound as mine do but the links seem to be to the 3.0 terrano and navaras does anyone no if my 2.7 has this switch on top of gear box apparently whrn they go bad it sends a mixed message to ecu to say it's in neutral at a certain rev range in 3rd and 4th so yhe ecu cuts diesel temporarily.

Hey yes that was the first thing I looked for. When I undone the banjo bolt there was no spring nor no filter so someone's took it out over the last 16 years lol

So today I changed the fuel filter. It was quite rotten to be honest. My god these are so easy to bleed my last 4x4 was a frontra dti and was a bitch..... After that I tackled next issue
I had a rubber pipe at back of fuel pump that u could simply pull off the clip wasn't tight that pipe turned out to be the feed from the tank I no it wasn't tight as It popped off a couple weeks back... so I renewed that too figured if I can pull it off with minimal pressure then air could maybe get ducked in by pump.

End result is.... she ticks over much quieter and has the power back in 3rd.

I'm guessing that the filter Was causing a little rough idle and the pipe may of been ducking in air at max tourqe at 2.5-3k in third gear.
