that's weird....were they genuine solenoids? id reckon so as im not sure you can get pattern parts..
Has he been over all the fuel pipes/unions to make sure none suck air when hot?
I would point a finger at fuel (or water in it?) but mine runs on anything I put in it with no problems...

you do mean it turns over nicely but wont fire don't you? not that it goes all sluggish and wont turn quick enough to fire? not doubting you Ged, just the information you've been given..

Auto advance stuck open - it's controlled (when working) by the engine coolant temperature i.e. there should be coolant pipes going to the pump

When the pump heats up,the outer casing etc expands and creates pressure losses internally.ie the pumping elements and so on have much greater spaces to move in thus not generating enough pressure to open the injector nozzles. Pouring water--should be cool but never real cold as it can crack a hot pump--over it wil lcause the parts to contract back again to give a tighter fit and allow the pump to work again...until it becomes hot again.
Depending on the type of stop valve fitted, take it off and remove the plunger, put valve body back on and start it. See what it does then when hot.If it's the solenoid,it'll still not start and if not the pump needs replacing/overhauled. Don't forget if you can take the plunger out, you'll have to stall the engine.
