As I've got a 2WD I like to carry waffle boards 'just in case', as I have a clear disadvantage over 4WD, and have the potential to come unstuck where others don't.

I carried them in the back for ages, unused, and ended up having to use them one night (on private land) as I sunk very slightly.

I don't mind mud in the car, but waffle boards seem to hold quite a lot of mud, so if possible I would rather not have them inside. Also, we are in the UK, it rains a lot, so if I do use them, they will get 'cleaned' automatically...

Now I'm slightly stuck on placement.

The easiest place to fix them is the bonnet. But is that likely to be an issue to the old bill, on the basis that if I decide to go hacking down the pavement mowing down pedestrians, they will all end up with waffle-shaped prints on their faces?

A possibly more sensible place to fix them might be the roof, but this is slightly more complicated. I'd need to do it in a fashion that doesn't cause leaks. Also, would passing chavs decide to clamber up the car, kicking off wingmirrors, as they see a nice flat place to sit and drink cans of Stella?

In either case, I need to find a way of locking them on, or they will be stolen. Ideas for that would be great!

That's how they would have to sit on the bonnet:

The way the roof bars hold on is pretty naff, so the bars and waffles could be stolen too easily.

I can mount them on the roof behind the sunroof, but it could be a bit of a pain.

Chavs on the roof is still a potential problem.

Are they light enough that you could fit them to the rear boot door? Not sure its a good idea but its another one Wink

Failing that carry some of those heavy duty bin bags and keep them inside? I tend to carry some for two strops that get covered just to make like a bit easier.

How rough is it where you live that someone would steal horrible muddy waffles off a roof? Very Happy
maybe bolt an eye in and use a bike lock to secure? I still think the roof is the right place.....

When covered in mud they would be too heavy for the boot door, without mud I might just get away with it, but could only put them over the rear screen.

It's a pretty crap place to live here, one reason I drive a banger is because people whack doors into cars, no respect for other peoples property.

I've had one car stolen and then torched. This car has been needlessly vandalised several times.

In one of my previous vehicles (Brava pickup), I repainted the ply lining, and found loads of foot and bum prints in it where chavs sat in the back to smoke weed. Hopefully the paint ******** their brand named tracksuits.

People won't know what the waffle boards are, but if there is a way to get them off, then they will.

I've even fitted locking wheel nuts to steel wheels!

In that case, I would keep them inside the car when you are parked at home.

Stick them on a roofrack when you have used them and they are covered in mud. Jet wash them on the way home, then stick them in the car once you are at home.

I dont see too much wrong with putting them on the bonnet myself. If you hit a pediatrician, will they be much worse off than had they been hit by a land rover with bull bars and a spare wheel on the bonnit?
