Hi guys and gals

Right I have an sj that has a vitara 1.6 8v engine fitted I have been building tube front and rear wings

The I have put the rad back in place and because of the width of the new body it's pushing the rad back towards the engine too far there is only a few mm between the back of the electric fan and the front pulley

Currently it's a vitara rad

What options do I have as far as a slimmer rad that's just as efficient

got any pictures of the new front? do you mean narrower in width or just slimmer in thickness?

I'd take a trip to the scrap yard with a tape measure and see what might fit...

Bit odd, there should be loads of room for a vitara rad and electric fans? What fan are you using, I have loads of space between the engine with a Vit rad and twin fans.

It's a double pully and I think it's this causing the problem as it pokes out much farther than your single one scotty
I was going to keep it to fit a second alternator at a later date but space behind the winch mount and new body is too tight

There's a double pulley on the crank for the Power steering if that's what you mean?

Need to see some pics of yours I guess, there's loads of room on mine.

That is indeed what I mean bud can't post pics from my phone unfortunately and I don't have a laptop anymore

Would a samurai rad keep a vitara engine cool enough as this would fit on the original mounts I think

My double pulley is quite far away from my rad but I guess I can have the bottom pushed a lot further forwards than yours.

If you think you can fit a 1.3 rad then I'm sure you could squeeze a 1.6 one in, they aren't really any thicker, just wider and taller, with a tiny bit of trimming they will sit between the chassis rails even with a vit PS box on a wedge. You might need to trim a bit of the inner bonnet skin to clear the rad cap though. I had to when I ran a bit rad with the original viscous fan and rad cowling because the rad had to sit closer to the engine and more upright.

1.3 rads do fine on road but struggle a bit off road at slow speeds and the fans will be coming on a lot more. Personally I wouldn't run a 1.3 rad on a 1.6 from my experience of being out with people that do, they stopped with cooling issues a lot more than those of us with 1.6 rads.

Bonnet trimming is the way forward I think I can it the rad more upright then and will gain the space I need

Cheers scotty Very Happy

Not the best pics but I managed to find some from when I first fitted a vit rad. Just tweaked the original vitara rad mounts and then made some small brackets to support the top of the rad. original thread is here http://www.suzukiclubuk.co.uk/forum1/viewtopic....&p=9206#p9206

IIRC there are two sizes of Vitara rad, one fits easier than the other.

I know the auto rad is a lot taller, but that has an oil cooler in.

All the manual rads I've ever had have been the same size, not saying there aren't two sizes, I've just never seen another size apart from the auto rads.
