The central locking on my 2005 Defender td5 has stopped working: no response to the plip (I've checked the battery, and even tried with the spare), and pressing the button on the driver's door no longer locks the other doors.
At the same time, with the light switches in the middle position, the interior light have gone very dim when opening a door - and don't go off when closing all the doors (so I have to turn them off in order not to deplete the battery).
Could these two faults be related?
Any ideas?

have a look in the wiring loom that come out of the door , inside the rubber sleeve . they tend to beak in side . as for the lights , sounds like a dirty switch and not making a proper earth contact , is it the same from the passenger door .

Did both faults start at the same time. That will be a big clue about whether they are related.

The plip problem could be that the BCU is not recognising the fob.
Do you have sunroofs & do they leak ?
It could also be an earthing problem on the reciever up in the headlining.
Both common problems on the Disco 2.
The key might need re-syncing & you'll need a Nanocom or similar for that.
The interior light problem could be water related too, most of the TD5 electrics need an earth to switch on.
