Hi all, I'm currently running a 300tdi D1 with an intermittent ABS fault. The ABS light is sometimes on on the dash. occasionally (usually when the light is off) I get resistance from the pedal when braking, but only at very low speeds, ie just before coming to a halt. Any ideas where I should start looking?

When I had that on my Defender td5 I had to tap (gently!) one of the ABS sensors to make sure it was all the way down; there is a replaceable copper spring sleeve holding it down, which you might want to check or replace (I never did).

Also check your wheel bearings.
Too much play can make the sensor think the air gap is too large, yet when you brake it sometimes reseats the bearings such that the air gap is reduced. Whilst this won't make the warning light extinguish immediately, it might be sufficient to make the ABS think you've repaired the problem so when you start up next time, the light extinguishes when you reach 10mph.
When the light is on the ABS is disabled but you retain normal braking.
