For those of you who remember the cross channel hovercraft - the SRN4s - (I do because we used them to use back in 70s & 80s to take our VW caravette to France) the last 2 in the world are facing destruction by the landowners of the Hovercraft Museum at Lee on Solent over unpaid bills (not the Museum's bills I hasten to add).

If you like big engineering and think that these giants should be regarded in the same way as Vulcan and Concorde, then please consider signing this petition.

I understand that this is a departure from Difflock's normal posts, but I can't stand by and see the Homes and Communities Agency demanding that these unique hovercraft be cut up for scrap just to pay a bill. There has to be a better way.

The Museum is already resigned to losing one of the two they look after (not own) but if even one could be kept as a symbol of engineering excellence and British industrial heritage...

Signed it.

Seems the last time they were sold as hovercraft it was for £25000 each.
269t at current scrap value would make it 'worth' around £7500!

Wonder how much it would cost to get it into my garden....... Smile

id make space some how, even if my house has to be flattened to fit it. I think the hovercraft would make a nice place to live with the big garage/workshop they put in the middle... Laughing

Now that is a good idea!

And a decent sized garage as well...
