Hi,

Many yonks ago, one of our RAF Leyland Hippos started to drink its own sump oil (long story), and the engine "ran away". The driver stopped, cranked up the right-handed hand-brake.and bailed out ... knocking the hand brake off as he did so.

The driverless truck, howling it's 10 litre nuts off, rolled away, and parked in the front room of an adroitly positioned cottage. Eventually the engine decided enough was enough, and died to a tickover.

A newspaper journalist and photographer arrived on the scene. I understand that the photographer went home when an RAF policeman stuck a .38 up his nose, and suggested the he should "go forth and multiply".

According to Google, our Maintenance Unit serviced the war-heads for Blue Streak missiles. I thought the concrete huts housed the chickens that laid chocolate Easter eggs.
