Some photos I found recently of the very first car I restored and customised.
A 1974 VW Beetle bought for £180 with a crushed rear end. I built it into a Baja Bug and fitted a new 1600cc twin webber engine. In the 4 or 5 years I owned it I won several autotest events and came 2nd in the local championship. The tyres were BFG A/T 28" front and 31" rear running about 4psi to try and keep them from wearing out in the centre. It was a brilliant wee car.
Note the high level rear brake light. I thought up this idea in 1987 - I should have patented it!
I kept the Baja for about 3 years after it became unroadworthy, and I had completed a 6 month nut and bolt restoration on a 1969 1300 Beetle which was so nice I couldn't bear to drive it in case I scratched it. I traded it for this kit car. An NG TF based on an MGB GT. It was very nice and attracted the girls nicely

my old manta swapped it for an m45 eaton charger with my mate who'd saved it from the local scrappy, bodged it together and rocked it in matt black for a while... it needed so much welding that I couldn't face it so took it off the road and stripped it for parts The rotten shell sat in my garden for a year then I gave it to another mate to save it from the scrappy again, and ended up welding it up for him anyway
Its now full of new metal, race car style stripped, wide arches, coilovered and running a 270bhp ex stock car injected 2.0l...

the wheels off the manta ended up on a b3 Passat gt I picked up with a snapped cam belt and 8 bent valves for £120, and I bought my brothers e30 off him...both pretty 90's chic still own the e30, its in the middle of having quite a lot of work done to bring it up to scratch
vw bus in the background was horrible and being 'temporarily' stored. I think I shunted it round the garden for almost a year before I got sick of the sight of it and dumped it on the owners driveway!!

I love how the BMW E30 looks. That model's a classic, I'd love to get one for myself. You don't really come across them too often in the US, though.

What cars did you used to own sir d?
And what cars do you own now?
I've had dozens of British and Euro crap from the 1950s onwards, plus a Series 1 Land Rover, a couple of S2/3s, Defenders, Discos and now an F2 but the best classic was a 3.8 mk2 Jaguar.
