Was looking at these for use on a 110 for everyday driving so really only on road. I know the 7.5/100 latitude cross are the tyres that they fit on defenders as standard so LR must think they're good (or they can buy them cheap).

Looking on the michelin site
http://www.michelin.co.uk/tyres/michelin-latitude-cross
I noticed when you compare them there seems to be quite a change in economy (C vs E) for not a huge change in the tyre:
225 75 R 16 108 H XL C C 71dB
7.5 100 R 16 112 S E B 72dB

However looking at the euro efficiency ratings on here
http://www.blackcircles.com/general/tyre-labelling/tyre-label
It seems category 'D' isn't used so perhaps the difference between them isn't really that much in terms of fuel econemy - Is the 225/75 scraping a C and the 7.5/100 only just bad enough to be an E (and not a C)?

Second will the 225/75s be too small. I think she's already is a bit 'under' geared on motorways as I have a 200tdi but the transfer box is the original for the 19j engine (I'd like to get a disco box with higher ratios at some point). I'm on 235/85 grabber tr at the moment, waiting for them to wear out..

Finally as fuel economy is the main thing are there any better tyres than the latitude cross?

Cheers,
Ian

Fuel economy and 4x4s, let alone Defenders are not something that should be seen together in the same sentence.

If you are striving to buy less fuel then get something other than any 4x4 - they have been made to work (as in work) not a long distance tourer.

BTW Landrover are more likely to fit a tyre because they can get them in bulk cheaply - I suspect they care as little about mileage as they do about the lasting qualities of their working parts....

Michelin supply Land Rover, and have done since 1971, with the XMS,XMS244, etc, they use Michelin because the brand offer them tyres suitable for all aspects of on road and off road use, from the Defender up to the Range Rover.
225/75R16 are far too small for the 110 diameter wise, they are not much larger in diameter than the 205/80R16 Defender 90 option.
Do you have the 1.667 transfer box ratio or do you have a 1.4 ratio, because that could make some difference to your fuel economy.
Fuel for thought concerning changing the box ratio most people use the 1.4 ratio in a 110 because it covers all their needs, running 235/85R16 tyres may be too much for the 1.2 ratio Discovery transfer box,i know many people who have changed from a 1.4 ratio to a 1.2 ratio on a 110 too improve fuel economy and motorway cruising but do find that 235/85R16 tyres and a 1.2 ratio box don't really do the job as in the need to change gears on hills and how much harder to a certain extent the engine works so they change back to 1.4.
Discovery 1.2 boxes are good up to the 31.5 inch diameter tyres that includes 7.50R16.
As for is there anything as good as the Latitude Cross in 7.50R16 i don't think there is, know of people who use them on Discoverys and find them more than adequate for there uses.

Thanks for the replies. I'll be getting some 7.5/100 then.

I'm not certain what ratios I have to be honest, she's an '89 G reg last of the 110s (before the defender came out) that started life with a 19j. The previous owner said to me that if the transfer box went I should consider getting a disco one as the ratios would be better. I'll definitely bear in mind that the 1.2 ratio might be too much.

Cheers,
Ian
