I never said that all 4x4s make a mess purely because they are heavy.

My point is that one of the reasons I use a small lightweight car is that there is very little ground pressure, and very little damage to even soft surfaces. This can ride over a crust on clay, where 4x4s would break through.

As part of my work I have to drive byways, as well as private farmland.

I respect the PROWs more than most, and all the users.

I'm really not sure what point you thought you were making by posting in this thread! Again, wrong audience I think.

I see your point to those knowingly and unknowing damaging lanes. But that wouldn't be me. You'd be better 'advising' those who go haring down lanes ripping up surfaces and nearly running over dog walkers, those that fit 33" MT tyres just for greenlaning, and I'm not even going to start on the 'off-piste' topic. But you aimed your comment at someone that won't usually drive a lane unless its in a condition you can get a car down.

If your main argument is regarding access to those who need it for work purposes, then the signwitting on the side should be a giveaway that I am one of those.

Although I have no problems with the recreational use of byways, I feel that we (as in all types of users, vehicle, horse, walkers, etc) should use the PROWs in a respectful manner.

So aside from that, I think we have the same views on the rest, ie tread lightly, minimal damage, respect flora and fauna, etc.

So again, I would be the wrong audience for your comments.

Horticultural & Agricultural Services. Wide range of services including planting field hedges, erecting/maintaining stock fences, livestock handling, draining digging, scrub clearing, etc.

The car gets to places the High-Top panel van can't, the Land Rover is currently laid up, seems to be surplus to requirements at the moment.
