I would like to see how this turns out. I had a 2.5 P38 before. I loved and hated it just as much.
A 3.0 conversion would be great, should have been an option to be fair. Everyone says the 2.5 is slow but mine was surprisingly fast. Faster than my 2.8 Shogun, 3.0 Hilux, 3.0 Isuzu (which on paper is shouldn't have been) Better than all of them on fuel too. Having said that towing a pissy little box trailer trashed the fuel economy.
I liked the sound of the engine and the fact it loved to rev like a petrol. Well made up for the turbo lag.
Seen as you are going to that trouble, try get a complete donor car? Might make it easier. Also try use the BMW fuel pump if you can as the Landrover one is like cheese.

You get a nice kick from the turbo, but a Morris minor would have it off the line. Made it bloody useless off-road. Mine was manual and the gear selector broke twice. I would put the biggest cooler you can get on it, then re-map it to make the most of the power.

What's the original engine in the P38? Petrol or diesel?
Is it a manual, or automatic?
