I am thinking about selling my Jeep and buying a Land Rover Discovery I do not have much more than £1000 perhaps £1500 could I hope to get a half decent one for that money I only do about 1500 miles per year in my jeep so I would not be using it that much any thought would be appreciated.

Discovery's rust out usually boot floor, seat belt mounts front and rear, front inner wings etc.If someone has gone to the extent of doing all of the rust i would expect it to be more then 1-1.5k, but you never know.

The Disco 1 is now at the age where they either need a lot of work to replace all the rusty bits, or they've had everything done.

So the former are going cheaply, the latter are (relatively) expensive. Unfortunately your budget falls between the two; £1000-1500 gets you a lot of rusty Disco with lots of knackered mechanicals ( engines, gearboxes, axles etc) and Tbh you'd be very lucky to find a decent disco for that price.

If you're handy with a welder, and know the difference between an open-ended spanner and a screwdriver, you'd ought to look for a mot failure for a couple hundred quid and spend the rest of your budget repairing/replacing rusty/broken items.

Thanks for the helpful replies it looks like I am going to have to think again as I am to long in the tooth to go crawling under cars at my age. probably better to stick with my jeep XJ it may do my head in at times getting it repaired but on the bright side it is rust free and sound as a bell.
