Hi all, its been a while.

I've acquired a Td5 Disco which the owner says jumps out of ratio while driving which is why he took it off the road (in 2006 and never fixed it!)

I've worked through all the other bits, reconditioning/replacing etc, the chassis is immaculate Very Happy

But now I'm looking at the transfer box.

I've heard tales of a detent spring held in with a grub screw being the issue, but can't find any reference to this anywhere?

I have all the centre console out and drilled the rivets this evening and given everything a good dosing of Plusgas but where is the detent spring for me to have a look at this?

Hi there, it certainly has been a while ...

My TD5 did that as well (when it was a buggy) and I traced it the lever linkage needing stripped and cleaned, the box itself was fine.

Detent ball should fit on the selector shaft.

Check that all bolts are tightened, as Richard says it could be the linkage.
Usually the opposite occurs, the linkage seizes due to lack of use.
