Going to get another SJ to play with, i have a XUD N/A, infact all needed near enough to fit it, and after saving for it i want to go to another engine, prefer diesel, but not the VW, to costly to fit unlike the Peugeot XUD.
what other have been used, bit out of touch with these things as not been about for a long time, so nay ideas on a good diesel, any newer mods from the Pug, VW and small ford/vauxhaul.
wolly

I built this a few years ago and i think the engine cost £1.99 off ebay and its a modded sj box and some mounts and exhaust made out of scrap. The most expensive part is the clutch if you want a proper hybrid one there about £50 or mod the sj friction plate with an angle grinder or lathe to make it small enough to fit inside pug flywheel. Ive since built 6 sjs for customers 2 vits and did start doing a jimny but a guy offered me good money for the truck so never finished it. The other option with the clutch is get a 16v petrol flywheel as its flat and bolts straight to the diesel then you can run upto 200mm vit clutch without a problem

Sounds cheap enough lol, what is/was it like though, any better than a XUD and LDV G box for gearing etc and off road, XUD is great on the low gearing.

With the rockcrawler it was 3rd most the time round the quarry without it was mostly first but didn't struggle, the only problem I found was the 5th gear on the road as mine had the 0.79:1 5th so it would do 80 in 4th and 5th just held it there wouldn't speed up. Once i got the crawler and the non sammy diffs in it would pull fine in 5th. Think if it was on 31s i would have done vit ring and pinion and that would be good
