My local garage charges about £45 per hour (main dealer is just above sky level) for labour, and these days that is good value.
But my NHS dentist charges £1,128 an hour!
OK, so the NHS has a scale of charges with three ranges depending on how much treatment you need.
All I needed is a check up and because my teeth are 100% healthy it only takes a minute or less to check and give the all clear. So for my £18.80 on the minimum scale of charges I get one minute or less, i.e. £1,128 an hour.
The lesson is neglect your teeth to get your moneys' worth. Or by costing in the pain factor look after your teeth and pay up.
I prefer the latter. Good teeth come in handy when you can't find your wire stripper.
J
PS: I'd rather find another kind of stripper.

And that, my son, is why dentists have new cars and holidays and all the other stuff we would like!

I get a check up, de-scaling, polish and x-ray every other visit for £15 on National Health. 20 mins set aside for each appointment so £45 per hour. You're being ripped off!

Personally I avoid dentists, they are all forgein, expensive ect ect, so when my front crown was broken I got the best quote I could £400.
Saved up the money, flew to Slovakia, saw a dentist, got a new front tooth, drunk lots of beer, saw some interesting sights.
Filled my rucksack with tobacco and flew home. 11 years later its still there!
my only disclaimer is that I speak serbo croat so could navigate my way through the system and did not embark on health tourism.
