Hi,
As a new Jimny 4x4 owner I have been unaware of diff wind up until just reading some posts.
I understand on normal road driving just to use to 2 wheel drive but I take it its ok to use low or high 4x4 if needed off road ?
Can I drive around off road leaving it in 4 wheel drive and how will I know if they are winding up ?
Cheers.

on my Vitara, it first happened to me before I knew what it was - reversing into a tight space there was a "bang" at the front
on tarmac in 4x4 the inner & outer F wheels rotate at the same speed in FWD, and as the turning arc's are significantly different some wind uo will occur, due to the good traction between tyre and road
off road, where wheels are skipping slipping and skidding the windup is allowed to release it self naturally

Do you just mean transmission wind up? Jimny's do not have a centre diff in the transfer box.
On tarmac it should be in 2wd.
offroad or an any loose slippery surface it can be in 4wd for as long as you want, sometimes you might get a little bit of wind up that won't hurt but if it doesn't want to pop out of 4wd just reverse if for a few metres.
