Hi all,
I have a 1964 series II 88 inch. I have got a set of front disc brake conversion kit and was wondering if there would be any point in fitting a remote servo as well or would it make the front brakes too good? By too good I mean would they lock up with not enough braking on the rears? I would be fitting a single line system or would i need a dual line system?
Thanks in advance.

Without a servo to support the disc brakes, I doubt you would be able to stop. That's what I found when I put a classic RR axle on the front of my 1964 IIa. Don't use a servo from a Series III as it won't be powerful enough - tried that and failed an MoT. Best to get one from a Defender. There is just enough room under the bonnet.

The set-up you have in mind with discs on the front and drums on the back is comparable with early Defenders. I would think they used a pressure limiting valve in the line to the rear axle to reduce the risk of locking up the back end.

Single and dual line systems are all about safety. With a single line, a failure anywhere in the system will affect all the brakes. With a dual line system, you would still have some brakes working, albeit at a much lower efficiency. For simplicity, I plumbed mine as a single line system.
