I went to look at the Discovery Sport; in the dealership it looked pretty special, inside and out. I will admit that the ones I've seen on the road haven't looked quite right - maybe that's that certain colours work and certain don't.
The press seemed to hold it in high regard (but suggested that it would be wise to wait for the new series of engines) when reviewing it in Iceland.
I bought another Defender over the Disco Sport on account of needing a full 7 seats, 5+2 seemed a little tight for my needs.
If I had the budget for both, I'd happily buy a Disco Sport (or an Evoque) for day to day and keep the Defender for when I need the 7 seats.

any reason why you didn't consider the Disco? 7 full seats plus all the toys.

The Jeep looks better. Disco Sport looks crap IMO and I really can't see what it's supposed to be.

It's meant to be the new Freelander! I had the F2 a couple of times as a courtesy car and I really liked it. I imagine the Disco Sport to be as good all round.

As for looks, aye, it's a bit samey but no more or less than Merc, BMW, Audi ..... they all seem to like the 'keep it in the family' looks. It's what makes the likes of the Defender and Wrangler stand out even more.

Maybe that kind of balanced opinion will upset some Laughing

You forgot the Ford Focus - and Toyota have one that looks similar as well...

As for the lines of the Defender and Wrangler - that's kinda the reason I love my Mk1 Shogun ~ nice and boxy Laughing Laughing

what argument richard.?

you chose to post in this thread....

but seeing as you mention it, yes, it does. you cannot defend landrover with the term jellymould, when they make that thing up there.

not an arguement, an opinion. one of them things you dont like other people to have.

I dont know why people get so upset about the shapes etc of cars. Why would it bother anyone what it looks like. Unless you are thinking of buying one its just academic.

In this case Colin, I think it gives a clue of how the front of the new Defender will look and given that the rest of us are going to have a look at an awful lot of these new Landrovers/Range Rovers because they're so popular and selling so quickly its a fair subject.

The fact that they produce such strong emotions is testament to the success of the styling. Laughing

No it's a testament to how emotive the styling is.

Can't say that the Discovery Sport looks nice, but then I can't say that most cars look nice. But then that is just my personal view. Some cars look nice, some don't. You pays your money . . . .

But going by the reports of those who have tried it, the Discovery Sport goes well on and off road and seems to be a good all rounder. And as I am not a Land Rover hater I will give one a try. I'm not going to buy one, well not just yet before the new engine has come out and been given a good try, but by then when I am in the market I will have a look at everything that meets my needs - just hope there are not too many to make choice difficult!
