It all startred years ago with this;
Then I toyed with a couple of mk1 shoguns as tow cars, then had the urge for another off road toy...looked at my brothers s2a landy in the garden for a bit before I realised I could do without another fragile money pit (sorry, landrover) in my life. Couple of beers and some time on ebay later I was the proud owner of a completely standard Rocky! Heres how it stands now after a bit of garage and bures playing;

I spent a bit too much time looking at pirate and decided that lots of tube work for bumpers and cage was the way to go.. swivelling nato hitch was one of the first additions (just for towing other people out, obviously) The bumper was kept nice and high for departure angle, and strong for when trees crash into me.
All the carpets and cardboard interior went in the bin after the first outing at wildtracks when we ended up with a ft of water in the cab and I made up some chequer plate panels and stole some thick rubber matting from work for the floor;
Notice the strong safe box I fabricated in the boot to keep the battery safe when I moved it to the boot to make space for winch goodies

Wheels are compomotive alloys off a (bright pink!) Suzuki wide/SPAM? boy.. painted white by me (as pink didn't really suit a green truck) and fitted with sh*tty kingpin remoulds I kept off one of the shoguns..these are only temporary, youll see..
stuck a £25 ebay special suede steering wheel in as I like the fact that you can still grip it ith wet muddy hands from when ive been attatching ropes to pull other people out with do like the motorsport look too The dog loves photos.
This one doesn't.

winch came next, warn 9.5 xp I removed off RRC before I sold it.. mounted in my pirate inspired stinger bumper..notice lack of worthwhile recovery points in front bumper, this is NOT because im useless and forgot to design some in I cant think up a good excuse...
Allbright solenoids and wiring for battery/winch ended up sat in the tray where the battery is supposed to be..Trusty cable ties to hold factory solenoid cover box down so people can see the warn logo.. I mean for some splash protection
Started snorkel but at the moment it just ends at back of bay as im not sure where to run it.. don't relly need a high intake when I spend so much time rock crawling in moab desert with my stinger

next up will be some box section sills, as I modified mine for more ground clearance last week at bures but im not sure that I like the curve..
Then shortly after that, these will come into play!
no pic of front as it at machine shop having diff sorted..the actuators;
That's it for the minute, ive glossed over everything so if anyone wants to know anything just ask and il go into more detail.. and keep watching for updates as I go.. that's if I don't get banned from 4x4's by the mrs because ive almost "killed"(drowned/rolled..ect..) her every time we hit a play day!

Gravatex? as in bed liner paint stuff? I like that idea.. the floor got a really thick coat of hammerite to keep the rust at bay(after the welding battle that we all know...) I covered the back of the chequer plate in sticky back foam to stop drumming niose and rattles..
Axles are G Wagon and the cylinders are for the mechanical diff locks you get in both axles

Front axle is at machine shop now having dog locking teeth machined in to other side of diff ready for diff flip still looking into heat/cryo treating to harden and toughen as factory side teeth are treated.. not something I have much idea about!?

got front diff back from machine shop today, they've just got to get the plug welds that hold the axle tubes in drilled out and I can get on with pressing them out and flipping the diff case.. Progress
Pic of factory castellated side of diff and sliding dog locker;
This is the new machined side of diff (without bearing) and the fit with slider;
ive got to get the new machined diff basket hardened, but no real idea what im doing .. anyone on here had any experience with doing this? I will be googleing in the meantime but any input would be appreciated..

this happened last weekend out;
so g axles are taking a break while I drain everything of water and sort engine (should have finished snorkel... )
im going to pick up axle casing in the next coupla days, so will keep you all posted as I make a press and sort that...and im thinking of welding up daishatspoo diffs for a bit of fun because it will take 20mins and I don't care if I break them. so keep watching I didn't think progress would be this slow...

well no progress on front axle as I haven't had a chance to pick it up, haven't even looked at the back one, transfer box is still full of water, engine still needs glow plugs, still got a charging issue.... so did the most sensible thing I could think of and bought some new(to me) seats
I kinda forgot to take photos as I fitted them so ive only got some that don't really show anything...but long(ish) story short I set some goals;
-new mazda (the subrames they came with) seat rails modified to bolt onto un modified Daihatsu bases so if I get sick looking like a retard climbing in an out, or get SPAM and don't fit in the seats anymore I can bolt the old ones back in.
-drivers side must have enough adjustment so both me and my short ass girlfriend can both drive.
-be made out of scrap in less than a day, so I had some time and money left to go to the pub.
Random useless build pic #1
Undescriptive random build pic #2
Drivers side trial fit;
they are now both in but its too dark to take a good photo....

more on the seats.
had to re do the sliders on the drivers one as i clearly underestimated just how short her legs are (bit boring- just redrilled holes to bolt to subframe further back on sliders). then stood back to admire my handywork and realised how much I hate the ends of box section that you can see when you open the door... cue some trim parts...
cut out some shapes in ally plate to cover the visible workings of seat sliders;
drilled some speed holes in them, proper performance mod;
bodge welded some nuts in the end of the offending box section;
drilled matching holes in the new trims, and bolted them in place!
so that's that, il get on with fixing the ******* thing again now...

Tiny update, been a while and no pictures im afraid
Just got done with swapping the engine out (apparently engines don't like running on water ).
G Wagon axles are making such slow progress that im giving up again till next summer, ive got to keep it running for the winter play day season! I never thought it would be this hard to find professional machine shops with the kind of tools to work on something like a 20yr old axle maybe im just looking in the wrong places??
Im fitting a line lock to the rear brakes so when off road they can be disabled in the hope of not wearing the shoes as quick (1 set every other play day is a bit alarming) or losing pedal travel to work the fronts, and I don't think I need them that much; I will keep you posted.
Ive welded some skids up to the rear spring hangers, and fitting a Land Rover Diff/steering guard (left over from RRC) to the gearbox crossmember to protect TC and act as skid. Also working on a snorkel that comes up through the cab.
Got some new tyres. Cooper discovers as theyre a bargain.
Does anyone think a lap belt for the drivers side is such an unsafe idea? I end up taking my belt off half the time to lean out the window to check where my front wheels are....
Pictures will follow when I get some daylight to get some good 'uns!!
I will hopefully be at bures next sunday if anyones there come crash into me and say hello

Ok so I've quoted myself before anyone else could.
There's been a bit of a shake up in my 4x4 life and a drunken session on ebay after another Daihatsu engine failure (user error) means that im now the (not so) proud owner of another RRC.
Ive decided that Rocky is not going, its being promoted to daily/towing duties with the addition of a tow bar and open rear diff to replace the welded one.
The G wagon axles are now destined for the buggy (if I ever get them done ) and the winch off the 'trak is going on the back of the buggy.
Figured I'd just keep the same build thread going as difflock doesn't need another thread that never gets updated clogging it up so here it is; the great unveil; the new buggy:
Just one question. How do I change the title of the thread to
"how to store part built G axles in your garage while not working on your truck due to being distracted by new stuff" ?
