Failing to get your 4x4 started?

1. Standing pressing the key fob like a demented lab rat only to spot your car 100m away with someone else doing the same thing beside it.
2. Believing the fuel gauge when it says you have fuel left.
3. Forgetting to switch the isolater, kill switch or hidden immobiliser.
4. Spending hours checking the wiring loom only to have a pal hold up a big black wire and say "should this be connected to something?
5. Switching the kill switch to off and insisting for days that it is in the 'run' position.

In the last 3 days I have done all 5 Embarassed

And for not getting it moving?

Transfer box is in neutral despite it 'going clunk'
Assuming that N aligns with neutral and R with reverse

My carer has been away Rolling Eyes

The first time I did a clutch change on the sj I did it from the bottom. I put the transfer box in neutral when I took it apart but it was a few weeks until I put it back together. I spent hours trying to get it to drive adjusting the clutch cable etc. It wasn't until I got a mobile mechanic friend to come around and I watched the prop shafts whilst he tried to drive that it dawned on me :/

I took the engine out every time after that Smile

failing to start?

being cockey and trying to find the temp that my wvo solidified at without petrol...

-7 was the answer.

with hindsight that experiment may have been better carried out in a jam jar on the front step, rather than with 60L of it in the tank.....and the lines....and the filters.....and the injection pump....lines....ect

Hi,

I drove into town, parked opposite the police station. Did some shopping, returned to car, found a space where my Disco should have been. Reported it's loss at police station, but couldn't remember the registration.

Plod was going to sort out some yobs near my street, so gave me a lift home.

Turned the corner ... to see my Disco parked outside my house.

Doh! I had gone shopping in SWMBO's car. Embarassed Had to walk back into town to collect it.

My sister did something similar. She was organising a conference and used the organisations minibus for the 10 days of setup and breakdown.

she then phoned me in a panic that her car had been stolen and what was she meant to do. Note: she was in London and I was in Glasgow. I told her not to panic, get a nights sleep and then go to the Police Station to report it. She ignored my advice and went straight to the Police who took all the details and then pointed out the window and asked if that was her black Volvo 360GLT parked across the road?

She still get embarrassed about it almost 30 years later Laughing

Rebuilt starter motor and refitted... forgot small wire to ignition barrel
(done that quite a few times)

Left my Samurai in dodgy area. Took the rotor arm out and kept it in coat pocket. Spent ages wondering why it wouldn't fire. No spark at plugs. Check dizzy is turning... damnit

My friend bought an SJ413, drove it home, then couldn't get it started.
Spent a while checking the dizzy, leads, etc.
Turns out PO had put an "immobiliser" switch in the glovebox and he turned it off when he put his CD wallet in there
