Just bought a 1989 (E) 300tdi trayback challenge truck which was too good a deal to refuse.
300tdi with auto box (with remote oil cooler and fan)
full ashcroft internals front and back
ARB lockers front and rear with Hi cap compressor
twin motor 8274 at the front
37" Fedima Siroccos in good condition
Full trayback roll cage
bucket seats and harnesses
It's got some chassis rust issues which will be easily fixed and a wee repair or 2 needed on the bulkhead both of which need doing if I want to MOT it.
Current plan is to campaign it for the next 12 months then look at changing the chassis for a 100" challenge galvo chassis from Richards and a North Off Road full Trayback cage (also galvanised).
Photos as and when I actually get it - its currently at the back of a barn blocked in by loads of hay bales and old tractor parts!

I collected it on Saturday and immediately biffed my right elbow closing the door with the window shut
It was built and campaigned by Alex Nimmo, partnered by Gordon Law and seems very well sorted out.
It runs well, most things seem to work but it need a decent amount of recommissioning after 4 years in a barn. So far the list is as follows:
evict the spiders
brake dismantle and service
engine - oil service
check wiring and cab controls
weld up chassis
replace the steering box (being supplied by Alex)
It rolled off the trailer fine but when I tried to move it on Sunday the front axle appeared to lock up - maybe the brakes are seized and the pads are jamming in reverse?

The wheels/tyres are temporary, Alex is keeping his Mach5's and I'm picking them up this week and putting them on modulars.

Looks interesting and something looks strange with the winch set up at the front.

I'll do a full report before I start mucking about with it.
The front winch is 2 x Warn 8274s set end to end with a custom made extra wide drum running between them. In reverse (winch out) you use one motor but when winching in you can either use 1 motor or double up for twice the line speed. It apparently works very well. I've yet to check it out.
There are controls for both winches both inside the cab and at each winch. I've not used 8274s before so I'm looking forward to learning about the legend. I thinkthe 8274/autobox combo is meant to be a really good one.

Look forward to seeing it in the flesh then. I was using my 8274 at the last Clog and it is fast although freespool is a joke for competition situations, that is where the Delta-Tek disconnect system comes into its own.

I've got money to spend on getting the base vehicle working before I start on toys!
