Hi all, I'm Matt and I'm new to this site and relatively new to off roading. I've got a modded Pajero which seems to be doing me proud and a good mate has just bought a very modded Vitara (which we've just changed a clutch on due to getting stuck in water!), so we're itching to get out and not only hit some lanes, but to do more pay and play days.
I live in Coventry, but I'm very familiar with Warwickshire and know a fair few lanes already as I'm an 'ex' enduro rider. This weekend I hit the lanes around Hunningham/Princethorpe/Ufton and also a couple in Balsall Common.
So if there's anyone who would like to come out with us and help broaden my knowledge of off-road driving and also Warwickshire as a whole, give me a shout! Would be good to tag along with the more experienced guys and see how it's done.
...hope this isn't too 'instrusive' as a first message from a newbie member!

You don't need modified vehicles to drive Green Lanes, unless you want to get Green Lanes TROed and closed down. Green Lanes are public highways and are just about the only access disabled people and those who just enjoy it have to the countryside. If you are looking for off road driving then please stick to Pay and Play sites. Not only are they more challenging but you also meet more like minded people there who are full of good advice and help. P&P sites are bloody good fun too.
Have you seen the Green Lane Code?

Maybe I got my terminology wrong then, but I assure you that ridgeway lane to ufton cannot be passed in an unmodified car. The same goes for Temple Balsall which starts with an 18" deep river crossing...
I am referring to any unsurfaced road as a 'green lane', which is possibly where the confusion comes from, as I did not state whether they were UCR's, BOAT's, RUPP's etc...
Lot of the well known lanes around here are challenging as they are not kept, particularly in the winter months - I've see the pictures of the same places on here as proof.
Yes, I have read the code of conduct and fully understand/implement it as I used to do lots of trail riding, but unfortunately a lot of the places I used to use in years gone by now have TRO's on them, which is not good!

There also seem to be a lot of lanes (BOATs, UCRs and ORPAs) that seem to be getting closed over winter to limit the damage done to them. Northamptonshire have a lot of theirs out of commision for that very reason.

There are very few "interesting" greenlanes in Northamptonshire but almost all Northamptonshire greenlanes are TROed during the winter and the authorities are not keen or quick to unlock them in the spring (there are lockable gates on most of them). This is because Northamptonshire is the most anti-greenlane 4x4 and pro rambler facist, county council in the UK.
It's nothing to do with limiting damage as heavy farm machinery causes far more damage than a few 4x4s, it's pure bloody minded pro rambler dictatorship.
