I've taken a notion for a Mazda MX5, budget's up to £5k. Anyone know anything about them and what would you recommend, what to avoid and what should I look out for?

Brilliant cars....brilliant fun....nearly not beaten for cheap, topless, fun driving.

Spend a couple of extra grand and get a Boxter......the one thing that beats the MX5 for cheap topless fun! Smile

and there endeth my council.

Mate of mine had one for a few years and his thoughts are:

avoid some owners clubs outings - they drive like loonies and expect everyone to do the same.

Check for rust and bodged repairs especially the rear quarters

watch for ones that have been souped up, blown up and bodged back to 'standard'

Don't waste your money on 'special' editions.

Watch out for immense amounts of fun, sunburnt heads and loads of tail happy action Laughing Laughing

MX5s are great cars although at 6ft 2" I find them a bit of a squeeze. The advantage of an MX5 over a Boxster is you don't become a Porsche owner.
