MSA statement on Jim Clark Rally

The Motor Sports Association and everyone in the motor sport community is devastated by the terrible events this afternoon on the Jim Clark Rally. The families and friends of those who have lost their lives and of those who have been injured are in all our thoughts as they face such an awful situation.
Police Scotland are now in control of all aspects of the investigations into the two accidents and both the Police and hospital authorities will issue further bulletins when they can. Everyone waits anxiously for some better news of those who have been injured.
As with any serious incident, today's accidents will also be subject to full enquiries by the MSA to ensure that any lessons are learned to assist in the constant drive to provide the highest possible safety standards at all motor sport events.
Release MSA14-021: 31 May 2014

It certainly is, and some of the press coverage leaves a lot to be desired IMO.

I hope the guys who has 'watched it from that spot for 17 years' is sure of his facts because it's rather damning.

Very sad news, The media seem very quick to put their angle on it. i was competing at the Regency stages event last year when spectators where hit ( i personally know the crew who were driving) and the headlines that were going around made them out to be criminals. When competing in a rally the last thing you should need to be thinking about is spectators being stood in dangerous places (at Regency the corner then were stood on, dozens of cars came close to going off in the same spot)
This is the sort of thing that seriously damages motorsport in our country!
Thoughts to the crew and family of the spectators.

MSA statement on Jim Clark Rally

The Motor Sports Association (MSA) welcomes the announcement yesterday by the Scottish Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill MSP, that the Scottish Government will commission a review of motor sport safety in Scotland following the terrible of events of the weekend.

As detailed by Mr MacAskill, the review will call upon the knowledge and expertise of the motor sport community and the MSA will play a full role in this, alongside Police Scotland, Scottish Borders Council and other key stakeholders.

The MSA’s over-riding concern as the governing body of UK motor sport has always been the safety of participants, whether competitors, organisers or spectators.

There is an ongoing investigation by Police Scotland. Like all connected with this incident, the MSA must respect that investigation and is fully cooperating with it. Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, we have been advised that we are unable to respond to media enquiries until it has been completed.

At this time, we can only express once again our heartfelt sorrow at the loss of these three people and send the thoughts and prayers of the motor sport community, to which they belonged, to the families and friends of those affected by this tragic accident.
