I found some odd rust spots on the roof of my 2000/1 XJ some time ago and looking at it yesterday there seems to be lots more spread out all over the roof its not large patches just small surffice rust the rest of the bodywork seems to be rust free just the top it may have helped if I had washed and polished it more often but I do usually give it a good wash once a year if it needs it or not but no polish Im afraid has any of you found this problem on and XJ I am toying with the idea of sanding it off and painting the hole roof with black rust proofing paint I should add its dark blu anyway so would not look out of place.

Is the rust blistering the paint?

Do you park by a railway station?

most likely is that it is rusting from the inside and is now almost through to the outside.

mk1's suffer the most - but bad condensation over years does eat its way through

I have just had another look at it and it is not bubbles it it more like small splits it seems every time I look there are more of them they seem to be all over the roof they have rust in them but when I pressed a little screwdriver it did not seem that the roof was thin or there was a hole there I think the only answer is to have a bit of a rub with some sand paper its not parked under trees or anything it must be some problem with the paint that they used.

I hope that it is not down to rust eating through like has been suggested.
