I was pleased to find that a blanking plate is already fitted to my vehicle because I was just about ready to buy the blanking off kit but I have a question about the gaskets I've bought.

I've bought gasket set Pt No WAL500010L-BM, I should add that the EGR valve is still fitted to my engine and see no real reason to remove it as long as the exhaust blank is fitted (unless someone advises that I should). The gasket set consists of two thin but rigid black gaskets with an aluminium reinforcing disc pressed around the centre hole. But it also comes with a thick aluminium plate which is the same shape as the gaskets with a bevelled centre hole - this is a rigid piece of metal.

The existing gaskets which were in poor shape didn't have the thick plate and I'm not sure what it is for and whether I must use it - any ideas?

When I bought my blanking plate I left the EGR in situ. I actually fitted the blanking plate after the EGR, where the pipe joins the main turbo pipe - mainly because it was easier to undo those bolts than the ones on the EGR valve.

That extra bit sounds like the piece I replaced the blanking plate with; ie it helps join the two pipes together.

Thanks for the reply - appreciated. A friend of mine came to have a look at it all today and he is very experienced on Defender's and Discovery's. He had not seen this thick plate before but in the end we decided to remove the EGR valve and we fabricated a series of pipe connections to allow the intercooler to feed air to the turbo - quite a neat job if I say so myself.

We did in fact use the plate in question with a gasket (plus the blanking plate of course) either side of it.

All I need now is for Britpart to provide a replacement passenger side door seal which doesn't arrive damaged - incredible really!
