Was looking forward to getting my recently purchased second PLIP key programmed to take away the worry of possible hassle should the only one supplied with the vehicle fail in the future.
So yesterday the auto electrical place I went to plugged their box of tricks in to the diagnostic plug (concern before I arrived there if this was really working but it did), and after a lot of head scratching, I was advised that only one PLIP key could be programmed. So the new one could be programmed as could the old one but not both! The chap did not know why and neither do I but there is a possible association with a small fault I already knew about where the indicator lights do not flash when I lock the vehicle but do so when unlocking. The only indication that the alarm/immobiliser has been set is when the interior lights immediately go out when I've PLIPPED after locking the drivers door.
So can the alarm ECU be repaired? Does anyone do exchange units? Any ideas on why only one PLIP can be programmed at a time? I know the general trend is to ignore everything but I like things to work and if I did get problems with one of the PLIP keys I would be in all sorts of trouble. I'm on the lookout for a used ECU but nothing around at the moment.
