Well, MOT on the old girl (1994 Indy lwb) is due next month, so went online and researched the past MOT's and noted some issues I wanted to check out, so got her up on stands and had a good nose.

The first thing I wanted to check was the "crack to rear subframe top tube". Let's just say if they did fix it for the retest it must of been filled with exhaust paste, cos it certainly wasn't done properly. Sad what's the crack with repairing this? It's split, probably about half inch wide, maybe more, about halfway around the tube about 3" from the chassis rail in the offside.

Amongst other bits, cv joints etc, I noted that both front upper wishbone ball joint covers are old, but I can't find replacements - anyone help with that?

Am costing up options at the moment, she may well end up being scrapped if it's gonna cost me silly money to sort.

Thanks, Richard.

I did mine by finding a bit of heavy gauge pipe that I hammered down the inside of the tubular X member from the wheel arch. I ground it off flush to the chassis and welded it around its circumference. That made the rust X member strong again and importantly gave me something to weld to when I plated the X member tube. It's a pig of a place to weld the top of that X member, so having the thick tube stopped me blowing holes in the thin rusty stuff.

I have the same issue with the ball joints - currently asking around for aftermarket, but so far only place for new is a dealer at £88 +VAT.
You can get replacement rubber boots:

http://www.southwalesprops.co.uk/propshaft/cons...es/ball_joint.htm

A route I might take if I ever have time & and get a good guide, to strip the front end down.
