I'm looking at a Land Cruiser 90 3.0TD 1999

I found one with manual transmission, and one with automatic transmission...

What is the best Terrain Driving? Do they have the same gear ratios?

I had one that was auto it was mega on and off road! check the rear diff lock they pack up through lack of use, the light should come on solid not flashing (if it flashes it aint working) and are bloody expensive to fix.

Auto every time.
Easy "on-road" and just as easy "off-road"

On the auto's there is a precautionary measure you should (must) consider.
This is to to with the auto-box cooler, running inside the main radiator(runs through at the bottom of the engine radiator)

They are prone to corrosion at the entry and exit points, and it is well advisable to examine this.
The problem happens when the internal auto-box pipes corrode and the higher water pressure in the the radiator, forces hot radiator water in to the auto-box oil pipes.
Resulting in water in the auto-bpx.

Several folk, either simply replace the radiator, or some folk disconnect the oil cooler pipes, and fit a separate auto-box cooler.
This second way, keeps the water adn oil totally seperate.

As far as the rear diff-locking actuator is concerned, take the truck onto some grass, and shift into low range, once in low-range, you can then activate the rear diff-lock.

The rear diff-lock doesn't activate in high-range.
