Repairing muddy track.

I have a piece of land accessed by a dirt track, it has been seeing more use down there lately and the track has become very muddy and rutted, to the point that I'm getting phone calls from people that are walking the track complaining about the state of it.

I don't own the track, no one does or at least wants to admit to it, it is not registered at the land registry, and it is a occupation road. I have been told I can repair the road but not improve it.

I'm now looking to do some repairs and wouldn't mind someone going over my plan and seeing if I need to do anything different,

Basically with a digger I want to level off all the ruts so its reasonably flat, then on the turning area I want to put down a fabric membrain then on top of that dump gravel and level out, does this sound reasonable as I have never done this before?

The gravel, even with the membrane will disappear into the ruts. You either need to dig down to solid ground or get hold of a shed load of road planings and level them off into the mud, do this several times and it will firm up the soil to the point it can be driven over in bad weather.

Depending on the length of the track it could cost a few quid and take a couple of years.

If money is no object then get a digger in, remove the soft mud, dump hardcore, then roll flat, then crushed stone rolled flat, and finish how ever you want.

one for the Memorial Garden and stuff about the Strawberry How Marshland Bio-Diversity.

No idea of the area, what what is the track you use for access to your land
used by other to access, or are they all just walkers?

Have you been told by the Council & in Writing that "you can Repair the road but not Improve" ?

Is there not a 'Common Good Fund' or similar locally for the likes of repairs,
Or Funding of that type?
Those phoning you should maybe contacting their Councillors.

and if someone slips up because of your repair are you liable ?
