Hi Guys,
I am trying o source a set of head bolts to suit a series 3, 4 cylinder petrol engine.
I've managed to get the majority of them but the ones I am looking for are the, four short ones, located near the spark plugs.
I thought that maybe high tensile bolts from a local supplier would suffice,
But apparently, high tensile bolts have different grades.
So the question is, where can I locate the original bolts, or failing that, what grade high tensile bolts do I need.
Thanks,
Norm.

Hi,
Thanks for that, but at 14.54 Quid they are a bit on the expensive side, unless that's the price for 4 ....??
I'm located in Townsville, north Queensland.
Thanks again,
Norm.

I guess you want the right ones, but I wonder about using longer ones with spacer tubes? It's not a brilliant looking fix, but I cant see why it wouldn't get it running?
Although looking at it on google images, they could foul the plugs
Given that it may not work with spacers, buy the highest grade you can. They aren't stretch bolts I believe?

I've had a better idea. You know the torque setting, and there is some info out there on which gineric bolts do what max torque. So it might not put you in exactly the right place on grade, but it would make sure you wern't overloading a particular bolt type.

Yes mate, the location of the spark plugs, precludes the use of spacers.
It would be interesting to find out the tensile strength of the original bolts.
It's an engine rebuild and I don't want to compromise it at this stage.
You wouldn't think it would be such a problem to grab hold of 4 poxy bolts..!
