I have had the engine symbol showing on the display of my 4ltr cherokee for a long time everything seems to be working ok.

I am a little worried about it and would like to get it sorted out I just phoned my local Jeep dealers and they are quoting me £90 to put it on there diagnostics computer a bit much I thought.

But then to put my mind at ease it may be worth it to me if it works has anyone had it done and dose it work please do not say plug in a generic one we have done that.

I used a generic ODB2 reader on my old ZG and it worked perfectly.

May be a different £20 generic reader is what you need? I don't recall which model I used but it was a Chinese cheap one.

This might not work depending on model year, as it doesn't work on 98-00 Wranglers. Within five seconds and without starting the engine, turn the ignition on-off-on-off-on. Leave it on the third time.

On pre facelift models the check engine light will flash, and you'll have to count the flashes to work out the codes. See here for codes...

On post face lift the codes will display in the odometer and may be two digit ODBI codes, in which case use the link above. If they are OBDII Pcodes see the link below...

My TJ does this all the time. I think it's down to the enlarged throttle body. Do the on off bit and see what codes come up. Google a Jeep forum and they will have them as a sticky. To delete the code, just disconnect the battery for 10 mins.
